RHKYC Inter-School Sailing Festival 2011

by RHKYC Event Media on 22 Feb 2011
Youth sailors celebrate after a weekend of fierce competition in the 2010 Inter-Schools Sailing Festival Richard Knight/RHKYC
The annual Inter-School Sailing Festival will be held at Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club’s (RHKYC) Middle Island Clubhouse on the weekend of 26 and 27 February. Now in its ninth year, the weekend of racing, with a staggering 96 races scheduled, will see over 140 students aged between 12 and 18 battle it out on the water. Added to the mix will be 20 race volunteers led by Race Officer Andrew Moore.

With 20 teams from 17 local and international schools taking part, it promises to be a weekend of fierce competition on the water as the teams are pitted against each other in a team racing format using Q’ba and Feva dinghies. 13 of the schools have previously taken part in the Inter-School Sailing Festival and this year we welcome four new schools to the competition!

The action is not just limited to the water; the hard standing at Middle Island will be abuzz with onshore activities and entertainment including race commentary, music, food and beverage and throngs of avid spectators cheering on their teams.

Racing starts each day at 1000hrs and the event comes to a conclusion with a prize presentation once the races have finished on the Sunday.
