Plymouth’s Mayflower Marina announces major investment in facilities

Plymouth’s Mayflower Marina will be spending over £300,000 on renewing pontoons and pontoon services this Spring as part of a phased programme of renewals that will conclude in 2013, when all of the marinas pontoons will have been replaced. Work on the main walkway has already been completed.

Managing Director Charles Bush points out that this investment is part of a rolling capital investment programme, which supports his company’s policy of maintaining and improving the standard of facilities available at the marina.

'Providing secure, stable berths for customer vessels is our core business,' he said. 'Our customers have a right to expect first rate facilities and the pontoons are where it all starts.'

Work began on the replacement of the main walkway pontoons early in the New Year, and in addition to being completely replaced; the new pontoons will be extra wide and heavy displacement for improved safety and stability. The marina’s 'B' pontoon, which has berths for 50 boats, is also being replaced with the work expected to be concluded by mid March in time for the start of the season. All of Mayflower Marina’s berths have individual connection points to mains electricity, to which boats can be connected, access to fresh water and Wi-Fi.

The contractor for the replacement of the pontoons is Walcon Marine, the market leader in the design, construction and installation of marinas and yacht harbours. As probably the longest established and most experienced company in its field, Walcon Marine is a global organisation and has provided some 90,000 marina berths worldwide, with its pontoons installed in over thirty different countries on five continents.

'It’s a pleasure to be back at Mayflower Marina,' said Clive Kemp, Commercial Director at Walcon Marine. 'We have worked alongside the management team for many years and we are very proud to have contributed to what is one of the finest marinas in the South West. The new pontoons should give many years of reliable service and provide berth holders and visitors alike with a safe and stable mooring environment.'

Walcon Marine and Mayflower Marina have a long association, and Charles Bush is very pleased to be working again with the Hampshire based company. He said:

'Walcon are a family company, and very conscious of their relationship with their customers. They deliver an excellent product backed up by professionals. Over the years Walcon have provided us with a first class service which fits very well with our commitment to offer our customers the highest standards of service and Mayflower Marina website
