Cigarette Racing Team moving with the times

by Bob Wonders on 11 Feb 2011
The fabulous Cigarette Top Gun, one of the models scheduled for display at the forthcoming Miami International Boat Show. Cigarette .
That most famous name on the world’s waterways, The Cigarette Racing Team, may well pre-date technology such as the World Wide Web, the Internet and E-mails, but that doesn’t mean it can’t move with the times.

The iconic performance boat manufacturer is now inviting owners, prospective owners and fans of the marque to keep with all that’s happening by logging on to its newly-launched Facebook site.

Those interested simply to go to team Facebook site where all matters related to the Cigarette breed will be revealed.

The site allows visitors to source new product, visit boat shows, poker runs and other events involving the Cigarette Racing Team.

There will also be occasional special Facebook only promotions and offers throughout the year including links to Cigarette’s YouTube videos.

This also gives fans a chance to check out the Cigarette Racing Team display at next week’s Miami International Boat Show.

A range of the company’s fabulous high-performance craft will be on show at Miami (February 17-21) including the awesome Cigarette AMG and the legendary Top Gun and Top Fish models.

The Cigarette Racing Team can trace its history back more than 40-years to its establishment in 1969 by the man known by many names, including the ‘Godfather’ of powerboat racing, the late Don Aronow.

Its original home, North East 188th Street, North Miami Beach, became known as ‘Gasoline Alley’ or ‘Thunderboat Row’ due to the proliferation of high-performance boat builders that followed Aronow’s lead and set up their companies there.

Sadly, ‘Thunderboat Row’ is gone now, taken over by developers long ago, but Cigarette, under the leadership of its current CEO Skip Braver continues to go from strength to strength in its new premises just north of the original.

Braver sums up the breed with one simple statement – ‘A Cigarette is not just a powerboat, it’s a lifestyle.’
