33rd Sabre National Championships.
A total of 73 boats competed in the 33rd Sabre National Championships at Brighton Seacliff Yacht Club in Adelaide. For the first time WA Sabre sailors competed against sailors from Tasmania, Victoria, Queensland, Northern Territory, Australian Capital Territory and South Australia.
Nine heats were conducted in winds ranging from 3 knots to 15 knots. WA Competitors Ian James (Double Trouble) and Bill Gillham (Aero) sailed exceptionally well finishing 21st and 25th overall.
Victoria’s Chris Dance sailed an outstanding series winning 7 of the nine heats.
Next year the National Championships will be hosted by Blairgowrie Yacht Club, Victoria.
The WA State President and State Secretary made a bid at the Sabre Annual General Meeting to host the rotational 2014/2015 titles – the rotational schedule may be moved forward to bring the Perth National Championships here in 2013/2014.
Sabres are currently sailed at Perth Dinghy Sailing Club and East Fremantle Yacht Club in WA. For more information visit the
