Deckhardware has been extremely satisfied with response so far to its first shipments of PROtect Tapes. According to Melissa Yeomans from Deckhardware, the product is popular with sailors around the world and a brand they had been looking forward to representing in Australia.
'This is something we had been interested in for a little while and we were excited to see it happen for us. Many boats that travel around the world competing already use the product including friends of ours.'
She continues: 'Within days of our first shipment arriving in the country we added to the list of boats using PROtect Tape in Australia. The list of boats competing in the Sydney to Hobart included Wild Oats, Loki, Ran and Loyal.'
Following on from its success and word of mouth referral, Deckhardware soon had to order a second shipment.
'The third shipment will be ordered shortly as more people find out just what PROtect Tape does,' says Melissa. 'And it has only been a couple of weeks since we went ahead with the brand!'
During the recent Pittwater to Coffs Harbour race Minerva was also one of the first boats to use PROtect Tapes onboard. 'I got the chance to wander around the Moth Australian Titles this week and it was plain to see that we need to get more of this product into stock.
'Having rushed a delivery up to Belmont for Sailing Bits, I managed to take a couple of photos. The Moths in particular have many uses for PROtect due to the stress and uniqueness of their boats. From protecting their hulls from wear to stopping the Centreboard from moving in the case. There are too many uses for PROtect Tape to list!'
She explains some of the benefits Protect Tapes can deliver: 'PROtect Chafe is a pressure sensitive tape using extremely high molecular weight polyethylene film with an aggressive acrylic adhesive. The result is a very tough material, with the highest impact strength of any thermoplastic presently made.'
The PROtect range has extremely low moisture absorption, has a very low coefficient of friction, is self-lubricating and is highly resistant to abrasion (15 times more resistant to abrasion than carbon steel).
Some typical applications include: dragging lines over the deck, mooring ropes, mast and spreaders, under the boom to protect it from spinnaker/gennaker sheet, pads on the deck for blocks and hardware, daggerboards, stanchions and sails.
