A massive fireworks display, sponsored by Kim Schmitz (Kim DotCom) was centrepiece of Auckland's celebrations to welcome the New Year, and new decade on the Waitemata harbour, last night, starting at the stroke of midnight.
Due to timezones, New Zealand is the first country to see in the New Year, and this display marked the occasion of the closing of the first decade and start of the second decade of the 21st century.
This year's display was much more spectacular than usual and was run from a barge in the Waitemata, with a second display launched from the top of the SkyTower, the tallest building in the Southern Hemisphere.
The show was recorded by Sail-World, using an iPhone4 - in movie mode, and held by hand for the 10 minute display which is reported to have cost $150,000.
For those with iPhone4, the latest Skype version was made available on 30 December 2010, and this allows a full video conversation between two iPhone 4 users - a very stunning feature, and quite a remarkable piece of technology.
