Sydney Hobart - Secret Mens Business 3.5 current handicap leader

by Bruce Montgomery on 29 Dec 2010
SECRET MENS BUSINESS 3.5, Sail No: 3300, Owner: Geoff Boettcher, State: SA, Division: IRC, Design: Reichel Pugh 51, LOA (m) : 15.6, Draft (m): 3.3 Rolex/Daniel Forster http://www.regattanews.com

Rolex Sydney Hobart Handicap position update.

Geoff Boettcher’s South Australian yacht Secret Men’s Business 3.5 is this afternoon the leader in the clubhouse in the contest for corrected time honours in the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.

The 15.6 metre Reichel Pugh design crossed the finish line in Hobart at 1.42pm today to lead the overall standings, but the favourite, still at sea, is still Darryl Hodgkinson’s Sydney based Beneteau First 45 Victoire.

The production boat, a larger version of the South Australian Beneteau First 40 Two True which claimed the major silverware last year, has a cushion of more than three hours as she sails down the Tasmanian east coast. But she may be running into lighter northerlies and an unfavourable westerly in Storm Bay.

Victoire has to cross the line by 3.16am tomorrow to win on corrected time and the most coveted trophy of the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia organised race, the Tattersall’s Cup.

Secret Mens Business 3.5’s place in the standings is a significant improvement since a rebuild after finishing eighth in IRC Division 1 last year.
