Launceston to Hobart Yacht Race- 33 yachts to contest race

The starting line will be crowded off Inspection Head wharf at Beauty Point for the start of the Launceston to Hobart race Derwent Sailing Squadron http://www.dssinc.org.au
The 2010 Sargisons Jewellers & Natuzzi Launceston to Hobart Yacht Race will start next Monday, 27 December 2010.

33 yachts from northern and southern Tasmanian yacht clubs will contest the race, which starts at 3.00pm. The start line is on the Tamar River, off Inspection Head wharf, Beauty Point. The race will be conducted by the Derwent Sailing Squadron in conjunction with Tamar Yacht Club.

The Skippers’ race briefing will be held at 11.00am at the Tamar Yacht Club Beauty Point clubhouse.

The Sargisons Jewellers & Natuzzi Launceston to Hobart Yacht Race is 285 nautical miles from Beauty Point on the Tamar River, sailing east into Bass Strait, through Banks Strait, leaving Swan Island to starboard, and thence down the Tasmanian East Coast, leaving Maria Island to port (sailing through the Mercury Passage), leaving Tasman Island to starboard, across Storm Bay to the Iron Pot, thence up the River Derwent to the finish off Castray Esplanade, Hobart.

Brian Wightman MP, Minister for Sport & Recreation, and Albert van Zetten, Mayor of Launceston, from Inspection Head wharf are the official starters.
