International Kiteboarding Association 2010 final rankings

by International Kiteboarding Association on 21 Dec 2010
Andy Yates - 2010 Freestyle World Title winner IKA http://www.internationalkiteboarding.org
International Kiteboarding Association final rankings for 2010 in all disciplines have been published after the last events of the season. The overall world cup winners are: Andy Yates / Gisela Pulido (Freestyle), Bruno Sroka/Steph Bridge (Course Racing) and Guilly Brandao/Gisela Pulido (Wave Riding).

While the world cup standings in the freestyle discipline are identical with the final standings of the world championship tour which has been run by the PKRA, the world cup standings in the course racing discipline as well as for wave riding need some explanation and clarification about the titles used.

The world champions in course racing are determined in an one-off event which was held this year in Corpus Christi, USA. The winners of this event are the world champions 2010, namely Adam Koch (USA) and Kari Schibevaag (NOR). The world ranking is covering all course racing events around the world held in the past 12 months, and thus at the end of the year the world ranking leaders are the ones with the best overall performance over the 21 events held in 2010. The Course Racing Overall World Cup Winners 2010 are therefore Bruno Sroka (FRA) and Steph Bridge (GBR).

The PKRA accidently published a press release a while ago announcing the best competitors on the years PKRA racing events as 'world champions' and unfortunately the concerned riders used the title 'world champion' as well. It has to be noted, that there are only two titles involving the label 'world', these are the official world champions and the official overall world cup winners.

In the wave riding discipline the world champions 2010 have been determined through the PKRA Wave tour as well, and the PKRA has decided not to count the resultless event in Australia for the ranking. As this actually doesnt make any difference to determine the world champions, ranking points need to be awarded to the participants of this event as the ones that have taken part can not be scored in the same way as the ones that did not even register for the event. Therefore average points of the participarting competitors are awarded for the official world ranking and everybody who took part in the PKRA Australia Wave event will find his name in the official world ranking lists.

Unfortunately there have been no Speed events in 2010 so the world ranking for this discipline remains unchanged.

In 2011 the world rankings will see the addition of a separate production course racing world ranking and a kite cross world ranking. The discards for the rankings will also be based on the number of major events held in 2011 which might lead to a slight reduction of events competitors need to attend for a good placing in the rankings.
