A yacht to dream about- The Focus 800

by Des Ryan on 18 Dec 2010
Focus 800 at full speed SW
Crossing oceans may be a fantastic experience and achievement, but setting off for a simple day sail in a superbly crafted piece of good naval design must be the apogee of sailing experiences, and even better if you can do it single handed. And that's just what the Focus 800 is all about...

The Focus 800 is nothing if not an eye-catcher, with superb sailing characteristics, comfortable, stable, and so easy for a single-hander. It even has an inboard engine, for the sake of convenience, and a very well designed cockpit.

While she looks like a traditional sailing craft, in fact the prototype was first shown to the public in 2001, and many have been built since then.

She's also the very opposite of a 'plastic fantastic' in that her rich appearance, with a

lot of varnished mahogany and teak, gives her a classic look

She is also ideal for the enthusiastic yachtsman who wants to go for a sail in the evening after work. With the explosion of houses and apartments built by the waterside, or even with their own wharf, this is a great boat to leave at the bottom of the garden

Everything about the yacht is designed for fast yet comfortable single-handing. She has a roller reefing jib and mainsail and a central winch. It is a GRP boat (but with the wooden deck) and features a carbon fibre mast for optimum sailing performance.

Specifications:
Length of hull: 8.00m
Length of waterline: 5.75m
Beam: 1.94m
Draught: 1.05m
Displacement: 1.1t
Sail Area: 26.7m2

The yacht is designed by www.seahorse-na.nl!Seahorse_Naval_Architects, and most of the yachts have been built in the Netherlands by http://www.focusonsailing.nl/!Focus_Sails_&_Sailing. Contact either of them for more details.
