Powerboat P1 unveiled its new P1-28SS race boat at the Performance Race Industry (PRI) show in Orlando, Florida and the eagerly-awaited launch made a big impact with the motorsport industry and powerboat fans alike.

At 28ft (8.5m) long and reaching speeds of up to 80 mph, the new powerboat represents great value for money and was one of the most affordable forms of motorsport promoted at last week's show. With prices from just $28,000 per year for a season's lease deal, or $89,000 to buy in race spec, the P1-28SS's prices amazed visitors to the show - all of whom expected the 250+hp engine to be an additional cost!

Orders were received from new racers for the North American series to be launched next year and P1 is busy following up serious interest from show visitors from Canada, the Caribbean, Argentina and the UK.

First to place an order on the P1 stand was Jorge Arellano who will race the boat in the new series in 2011. An accomplished racer in the early 1990s, Jorge compared the SuperStock series to the 'good old days when there was lots of competition in fewer racing classes.' He liked the new boat's configuration, saying: 'The boat is beautifully designed and has a stunning-looking cockpit and layout. I'm very impressed with the safety features that P1 has incorporated into the design and I'm looking forward to getting back into the driver's seat next year. The versatility of the boat is good too, as the rear race cowl comes off to reveal a rear bench seat for an extra three passengers!'

Martin Sanborn, Director of North American Operations for P1 USA commented, 'We have been inundated with interest and leads for the new P1-28SS at the show from an audience who perhaps have not considered powerboat racing as a motorsport previously. The huge level of interest confirms what we set out to achieve with the new boat - an extremely well designed and appointed powerboat representing incredibly good value for money. We have been promoting our racing packages which provide options for team owners and racers and allows newcomers to form a syndicate to share the costs of ownership over a number of years'

The P1 SuperStock series will arrive in North America in May next year. The five or six event championship will run from May to October with races planned for the Gulf Region, West Coast, Eastern Seaboard, Florida and Great Lakes. In 2012 it is expected that the five to six race venues for 2011 will become race regions, with each region having its own five to six race events.

The North American SuperStock champions will go forward to race against SuperStock champions in Europe, Asia and the Middle East from 2013.

The P1-28SS boat leaves the USA this week to travel to the UK for its European debut in front of 90,000 visitors at Autosport International at the NEC in Birmingham from 13-16th January 2011.
