Mixing the metaphors, at the Press conference at the end of Monsoon Cup Day One, the World Match Racing Championship tour leader Mathieu Richard looked like a rabbit caught in the headlights.

The reason was simple. The 2010 World Match Racing Tour leader who had three event wins at Match Race France, Match Cup Korea and in St. Moritz Switzerland, is in trouble with what seems to be a serious form slump.

Richard finished equal 13th at Argo Gold Cup Bermuda.

Richard was knocked out of the quarter finals at the Sunseeker Australia Cup.

Richard was 0-2 after the first two flights of the Monsoon Cup.

Then came the critical match - Francesco Bruni (Team Azzurra) v Mathieu Richard (French Match Racing Team). Richard had to take this match, Match 4 of Flight 5.

Enjoying the light conditions Richard just won the start on the pin, then after a slow tacking duel Richard was soon three lengths ahead, but Bruni was in pressure on the left and reduced the lead to less than a length. A bad tack from Richard and the lead swapped before the top mark.

Bruni led at the top mark by two to three lengths.

Richard struggled back into the lead, a precious lead but then Bruni went hunting for pressure, Richard inexplicably did not cover.

Richard lost the match and was 0-3.

Now Mathieu Richard is in 11th place, yes there is blood in the water and the sharks are circling!!

Amongst them might be an Italian Tiger shark Francesco Bruni and a West Australian Great White Torvar Mirsky both 3-0 at this early stage of the Monsoon Cup
