Antares 44i sailing SW
Most production catamarans are built for vacations in protected waters, and their features are designed to attract the short term sailor. The Antares 44i is designed with the entire world in mind, and built in Argentina, instead of Canada, since 2008. Even when fully loaded for circumnavigation, the Antares 44i continues to perform well, as she was designed to do.

Yes, this catamaran features all those elements - from the sail plan to the winch positioning to the covered cockpit - that the serious cruiser requires, as opposed to the charter-boat holiday-maker.

The manufacturers have aimed at providing comfort in all weather & sea conditions, with ample storage for the long term cruiser, an extended galley capacity for those who will be staying on their boat for long periods, if not living aboard, and a comfortable environment that makes for ease of living for the committed cruiser.

The final, and probably most important feature that the Antares people considered essential was its two-handed ability - a vessel that is able to be sailed easily and well by a couple.

The vessel features:

- Twin 29 HP Yanmar 3YM Diesels, sound shielded, with 55amps/engine alternators.
- Volvo 18' 3-blade, feathering propellers
- Racor fuel filters
- Twin 60-gallon diesel tanks installed midships below water-line with 2 fuel deck inlets
- Cruisair air conditioning (2 x 7,000 BTU, 1 x 18,000 BTU)
- Kohler 6 KW generator including sound insulation box

Its electrics are all Furuno brand, 4 solar panels are an automatic inclusion, recessed into the hardtop with a smart regulator. It has 740 amp hours in batteries, and separate batteries for engines and genset. There's a Mastervolt inverter with 110 volt AC circuits. Those who want 220/240 volts would have to make special arrangements.

It comes with two hot water tanks for comfort, fresh and seawater wash-down outlets near the anchor locker, and hot and cold hand held shower near the port transom stairs. There's also a 15 gallon per hour watermaker.

An electric windlass powers the anchor system, which includes 50ft 10mm chain and two 45 lb anchors, with an integrated double anchor roller and chain stop.

There's a stainless steel arch aft with integrated bench/davit system suitable for dinghies up to 12' in length, also a gas BBQ mounted in cockpit with LPG outlet in rope locker

The very comfortable accommodation includes two staterooms on both port and starboard hulls, and one forward cabin on the port side.

The Antares 44i is the only production catamaran built with a glass windshield and wipers and a full removable enclosure designed into the hardtop.

With substantially more storage and counter space than other yachts of its size, the Antares galley is designed to provide a bright and open work area.

Features include custom built 7-cubic ft. fridge and 4-cubic ft. freezer, convection microwave, propane stove, Corian counters with stainless steel backsplash, as well as 15 full-size cupboards and 4 large drawers.

Proper bridgedeck clearance, narrow hulls and light-weight interior all contribute to great blue water performance.

A Galley Big Enough to Call a Kitchen : If you only plan to rent a catamaran for 4 or 6 days, a small galley connected to the cockpit makes a lot of sense. But that same galley will drive you crazy if you plan to live aboard.

Every Antares interior is hand-crafted using state of the art materials, such as lightweight honeycomb board sandwiched between 2 layers of cherry veneer. Because so many other catamarans are built for charter, they typically use wood accents inserted into heavy fiberglass molds. However, as with all true luxury yachts, the Antares' interior is filled with fine wood cabinetry and boasts more than 65 cupboards and drawers. The Antares stands alone as the only luxury cruising catamaran in its class.

Measure twice. Cut once.
Perhaps even measured thrice? Yes. On reflection, I think we can absolutely lock that one in. Perhaps even measured thrice? Yes. On reflection, I think we can absolutely lock that one in. So then, let's consider all this. Now that initial quantum was keeping the ambition in check. No headlines. No elongated rig. No overtly aggressive sail plan.
