Teams were on the water today for the first official practice of the Louis Vuitton Trophy Dubai regatta and attended the Opening ceremony on Friday.
The breeze was light and the sky hazy; the teams were happy to be back on the water and the scene was being set for two weeks of intense match racing.
Two Emirates team New Zealand yachts – NZL92 and NZL84 - and two supplied by BMW Oracle Racing will be used by all teams.
A second practice day will take place on Saturday and teams start racing in earnest on Sunday.
The regatta opens with round robin one in which each team will race every other team twice in back-to-back matches; in round robin two, which starts on November 21, each team will race every other team once.
Points are accumulated over both rounds robin – one point a win in RR1 and two points a win in RR2. The top four teams go through to the semi-finals.
Semi-finals will be raced on November 25 and the final on the 26th.
Three of the six teams racing have announced their entry for the 34th America's Cup.
