Class 1 debut for Sandro Sardelli alongside Nicola Giorgi UIM
UIM Class 1 World Powerboat Championship update.

Italian outfit GiorgiOffshore has confirmed a new line up for the remaining two Grands Prix of the season in Abu Dhabi (24-26 November) and Dubai (9-11 December).

Italian motor racing driver Sandro Sardelli will swap tarmac for water to take the driver’s seat in the Lamborghini-SCAM powered (18) Giorgioffshore to make his Class 1 debut alongside the experienced Nicola Giorgi. 'Sandro is a very good racing driver and has a real passion for powerboats. He is a good friend of mine and we [GiorgiOffshore] are very happy and confident to make a strong partnership [and] to secure a long term project together in Class 1,' said throttleman Giorgi. 'He will have to adapt his driving style quickly especially in Abu Dhabi and Dubai where some rough seas are expected but I am sure he will do it with no troubles due to his racing talent.'

Sardelli has enjoyed a successful career on four wheels spanning over fifteen years; in the nineties he competed in the Italian CIVT Championship winning the Nurburgring 24 Hours, and Super Touring Car Championship winning the Spa 24 Hours. He later moved up to race in the FIA European Super Touring Car Championship - winning the Sicily 24 Hour and Misano 6 Hour - the GT3 Championship and the Italian Porsche GT3 and Super Cup Italia series.

The team heads to Abu Dhabi where Nicola will make his 73rd Grand Prix start and look to try to repeat his podium success in the Edox Pole Position in 2009, and to consolidate on this season performances which saw him start strongly to finish fifth and fourth in Brazil, grab a podium and fourth place in Sweden and finish sixth in race 2 in the Italian Grand Prix in Stresa.
