Peter Gilmour visits Malaysia based Yanmar R&D Center

Mr. Peter Gilmour, skipper of Yanmar Racing visited the Yanmar Kota Kinabalu R&D Center and the Sabah International Expo 2010 (SIE2010), a multi-industry international trade fair.
Renowned for the production of industrial and marine engines, Yanmar has long been involved in the development of advanced environmental technologies, which support its corporate mission of 'being an innovator and leader in harnessing energy, while contributing to an environmentally sustainable society, through the delivery of unrivaled products and services'.
Yanmar Kota Kinabalu R&D Center was established in 2008 and deals in the research and development of biodiesel, in order to actively contribute to world environmental issues such as the depletion of oil resources and global warming. Its main activities include the development of biodiesel engine technologies, engine performance tests, together with analysis and evaluation of fuels and lubricants to be used on biodiesel engines. During SIE2010, which took place between 15 to 19 October, the Center exhibited panels with the biodiesel research and woody biomass gasification solution in conducts. The Yanmar booth also featured posters and promotional clips of Yanmar Racing, to introduce the various domains Yanmar operates in.
During his participation at the said exhibition on October 16, Mr. Gilmour greeted Chief Minister of Sabah and the visitors of the Yanmar booth, and offered a presentation of the latest activity of Yanmar Racing and tips on how to make the most of match races. The presentation was received with great enthusiasm and the visitors stood in long lines to receive autographs and take pictures with Mr. Gilmour.
During his visit at the Center on October 17, Mr. Gilmour received explanations regarding the testing devices used for biodiesel and a variety of endemic species of freshwater fish commonly found on Borneo Island, and visited the premises. An expert in sailing, a sport that uses the wind as a natural source of energy, Mr. Gilmour showed great interest in the environment-friendly technologies developed here and had lively discussions with the staff members. After the visit, he showed admiration for the sustainable technologies developed at the Center, emphasized the many similarities between Yanmar and Yanmar Racing, and reiterated his enthusiasm about the partnership with Yanmar.
From November 30 to December 5, Yanmar Racing will participate in the Monsoon Cup race held here in Terengganu, Malaysia.
