The City of Perth foreshore filled with energy yesterday when 35 Olympic sailing dinghies and 10 windsurfers competed in the City of Perth Sailing Regatta on the water area in front of Barrack Street, Perth.

Local Royal Freshwater Bay athletes dominated the results with Tristan Brown winning in the Laser Radial and Thor Scheonhoff winning in the Laser Full Rig event. Star emerging nations athletes were Andrea Aldana from Guatemala in the Laser Radial and Andrey Quintero from Columbia in the Laser Full Rig.

'The strong 30 knot sea breeze meant the sailors were put under extreme physical demand to make it through all six races. The conditions here are gusty, shifty and unpredictable, the perfect conditions for our sailors to be training in to prepare for the Perth International Regatta where they will need to make it through six days of intensive racing,' said Emerging Nations Coach and Olympic Gold Medallist, Belinda Stowell.

The City of Perth Sailing Regatta played an important part in each athlete’s preparation towards the Perth International Regatta to be held in only three weeks’ time from 16 to 21 November 2010.

The Deputy Lord Mayor, The Honorable John Tognolini, attended the event and conducted the presentations on behalf of the City of Perth.
