RYA announces National and World Powerboat Champions for 2010 season

by RYA on 26 Oct 2010
James Bushell 2010 World Champion RYA http://www.rya.org.uk
2010 has been another fantastic year for UK Powerboat Racing. We have seen the UK host the 50th Anniversary of the infamous Cowes Torquay Cowes race won by the legendary boat designer Fabio Buzzi.

The European 3C Championships at Harwich and in a first for the UK, the UIM Formula Future World and Continental Championships.

There have been over 800 people racing powerboats over the three disciplines of Offshore, Circuit and Jet Sport with several representing the UK in International competition.

So far this year our competitors have secured seven World Championship titles with Mark Williams securing the World Formula 4 Championship and youngster Jordan Muckles from Team GBR’s Formula Future team securing the Class 4 World Parallel Slalom, Manoeuvring and Overall World Championship Titles. The JSRA’s Lisa Barsby secured the 2010 IJSBA World Master Ski Stock Championship, whilst James Bushell powered into the 2010 IJSBA Pro-Am Runabout Stock Championship to take the Gold Medal and Lee Stone dazzled the crowds somersaulting his way in to the record books as five times Freestyle World Champion securing the 2010 IJSBA Pro Freestyle title.

Team Great Britain at the IJSBA World Finals also secured three Silver medals in the form of World Amateur Freestyle silver medallist Jack Moule, World Amateur Runabout runner up Brad Rickaby and World Expert Runabout silver medallist Perry Field.

Three World Bronze medals have also been secured. The first by Brian Block in the Formula 4 competition, with Sophie Perrin securing the Bronze at the IJSBA World Finals in the Novice Women Ski championship and James Bushell taking the Bronze in the IJSBA Pro Runabout Open Class.

In European competition Perry Field claimed the Aquabike Pro Runabout Silver European Medal, whilst in Circuit Racing Julian Codling secured Bronze in the European F250 Championship in his first year of international competition and Jordan Muckles took his total of medals to four with a Bronze Formula Future Continental Championship medal in Parallel Slalom – Not bad for a 14 year old!

Reflections
However we must reflect on the untimely and tragic death of Offshore Class 3C racer Ian Stirling at the European Championships in Harwich earlier in the year.

Ian had been racing Offshore Powerboats for 20 years a World and National Record Holder, 2008 saw him finish in the Bronze Medal position in the World Championships and 2009 saw him take the National Championship title he’d been battling for, for 19 years. Ian will be sorely missed both on and off the water by all the racing fraternity and will always remain in our thoughts.

National Champions
As we near the end of the year the UK has secured 58 National with several championships not being decided until the very last races of the season. Racers now head to Coniston Records Week to become the new 2010 National and World Speed Record holders.

But in the meantime the RYA Powerboat Racing Department would like to congratulate everyone that competed in a fantastic season and offer a huge thanks to all the Clubs, Officials and Support staff involved.

The 2010 RYA National Champions are;
