Formula Cruisers release new model - ICON 42 IPS

by Troy Woods on 8 Oct 2010

The latest addition to the prestigious Formula Cruisers range of flybridge cruisers is the just released IPS version of the ICON 42.

'We have had strong interest in the 42 since we released it earlier this year, with large numbers of people asking if we could fit pod drives into the boat. After working with Volvo to confirm the suitability of the hull design for the IPS system and seeing the resulting fuel efficiency numbers, the IPS decision was an easy one for us to make' says Troy Woods, Formula's Sales and Marketing Manager. 'Once that decision was made we set about completely redesigning the interior of the 42 around the IPS drives to maximise the space advantages available to us'.

The result is a versatile twin cabin, two bathroom boat featuring sleeping facilities for seven adults. The master cabin has it's own ensuite head and in addition there is a second bathroom which includes a full size shower stall. The full beam guest cabin features both a double and single bed, and with the option to split the double into two singles, offers plenty of accommodation options for either family cruising or fishing weekends. Two large hull ports are stylish and allow plenty of light in.

The saloon is on a single level and includes a settee, entertainment system, opening window and bar storage as well as separate L shaped dinette which converts into two additional bunks. The large galley is fitted out with separate fridge and freezer, microwave / convection oven, ceramic hob and has plenty of storage.

'The 40 ft market has always been popular and the 42 IPS has been designed to appeal to both the family cruising and serious sports fishing enthusiast and offers significant advantages to both in terms of space and versatility' says Woods.

Powered by twin Volvo IPS500's, the 42 will have a speed of 31 kts with comfortable cruising from 20 – 24 kts. Not to be overlooked is the excellent fuel efficiency of the IPS system with the ICON 42 having a range of over 400 nm at 21+ kts.

Formula Cruisers have established themselves as New Zealand's preeminent motor yacht production builder over 28 years and their current range includes the ICON range of fly bridge cruisers as well as the Prowler 10.4m power cat. Formula Cruisers offer a unique money back construction guarantee and with the ICON 42 priced at under $1 million NZ dollars it is well worth considering.
