Heaven Can Wait -Attention Skippers and Crew – What YOU can do!!

by Heaven Can Wait Media on 26 Sep 2010
Heaven Can Wait 2010 hits $18k Heaven Can Wait Yacht Club
The Heaven Can Wait regatta is all about raising money for Mens Cancer Research. So far in 2010, a week out from the regatta, we have raised $18,000, with an initial target of $25,000 but we believe we can raise as much as $35,000 this year if all the skippers and crews pull together.

As you are aware, the Heaven Can Wait Yacht Club lowered the One Lap Dash and 24hour Race entry fees dramatically based on the fact that entrants would join the Virtual Race and help drive the fund rasing effort.

The initial target for One Lap Dash boats is $200 and for the 24 Hour Race the target is $500. So we do need every one to hit those numbers. (Note some boats have paid the full entries fees instead and that is fine as the extra money goes to the charity anyway.)

Some boats dramatically exceeded that target but some boats are still in the 'Boat Park or Dockside.'

Heaven Can Wait Commodore Shaun Lewicki said this morning 'Entering the Heaven Can Wait is the first step in the awareness of 'Men's Cancers' - having your crew, family, your workmates or companies supporting your Everyday Hero Page is the heart of what the Heaven Can Wait event is all about, and like all living things it needs exercise.

‘It's up to all of us to make a difference, if for nothing else because we can. Entering is the job half done so please let’s all bring the Virtual Race to life, and bring all of our combined efforts home with a wet sail.

‘For those who've already contributed my sincere appreciation.’

Top Ten Team Members as at Sunday morning

1. Quattro Team $3,651.00 AUD
2. Full Frontal Team $1,895.00 AUD
3. Nereus Team $1,450.00 AUD
4. Kelly 2 Team $970.00 AUD
5. Emmenar Team $930.00 AUD
6. Windchaser Team $900.00 AUD
7. Spindrift Team $895.00 AUD
8. Young N Old Team $605.00 AUD
9. Mulloka Team $600.00 AUD
10. Solar Mist Team $460.00 AUD

How have the leaders done so well in this virtual race?

By the skippers and crew all sending a note like this to their family, friends, colleagues, crew etc. via email or via their Face Book page, with a twitter alert or all three

A message like this

Subject line: Heaven CAN Wait! Please support us in raising funds for men's cancer programs!

Body text: Our/my boat, , is entering the 2010 Heaven Can Wait charity yacht race, a 24 hour race/2010 Heaven Can Wait One Lap Dash on Lake Macquarie (just south of Newcastle) which aims to raise funds for cancer research and support programs. You can read more about the race, which is now in its fifth year, at http://www.heavencanwait.com.au.

Last year, this event raised over $22,000 for the charities it supports (primarily the Cancer Council NSW, which directs the Heaven Can Wait funds raised towards men's cancer research and support programs).

Each boat in the event has a dedicated web page (with secure payment facilities);
Aside from a small processing fee (detailed on the Everyday Hero site) all sponsorship money raised through this site goes directly to the NSW Cancer Council NSW, Hunter Division.

If you would like to support us in the fight against cancer, please make a donation via our sponsorship page. You will receive a tax invoice for your donation, and it will be completely tax deductible.

You can find us here http://www.heavencanwait.com.au/index.cfm?eid=1403

You can donate as little as a couple of dollars -- or as much as you like.

Thank you for considering supporting this event and the NSW Cancer Council.’

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now you can of course customise and personalise that- but the key thing is we really need you to send out a note to everyone.

(Note you might want to replace this general web address in the message above with the one for your boat you will find it when you click thru from the address below.)

Now how much has YOUR boat raised so far??

Have a look here http://www.heavencanwait.com.au/index.cfm?eid=1403

As Shaun Lewicki who founded this event said this morning - ‘If your boat is surfing down the second run, that’s great, we appreciate all your support. ‘If its still on the rigging lawn or dockside please copy and paste the info above, trim your sails and join the virtual race! If you need more info or help doing any of this please call us on any of these numbers ‘
