The International Council of Marine Industry Associations (ICOMIA) has reported the passing of Tom Webb, a founding member and its secretary general from its foundation in 1967 until 1979.
In a statement, the organisation said: 'It is with great regret that we report the passing away of Mr Tom Webb who was a founding member of ICOMIA and was its Secretary General for 12 years from its foundation in 1967 until 1979.
'He was elected Honorary Member on 19 March 1980 and remained one of only four elected to that position to this day. He was Secretary and later Director General of the British Marine Federation’s forerunners from 1950 until his retirement in 1986.
'He oversaw the great expansion of the industry over this period and was a participant in all the key UK and international initiatives in those years. A true visionary for our industry and giant of his times. We mourn his passing and give thanks for his life of service to our recreational marine industry.'
