Victorian named Canada's top teen sailor

Michael Jarosz of Victoria has emerged as the top 18-year-old sailor in Canada.
After four days and 12 races of swirling winds, splashing saltwater and stomach-churning waves, Jarosz and sailing partner Quinn Lessing of Port Moody returned victorious from the 2010 Sea Cadets National Regatta.
'Going into the regatta he was dedicated to doing everything,' said national team coach Candy Daily. 'I thought he would definitely come in the top three. He had the potential to win it … We were very hopeful and excited.'
Organized by the Navy League of Canada and the Canadian Forces, the annual event pits the province’s top 12- 18-year-old sailors against each other for the title of best in the country. At this year’s event in Kingston, Ontario, the honour belonged to Jarosz and Lessing. The duo competed against 25 of the best sailing teams from across the country from Aug. 22-26, securing gold on the last race of the competition as they rounded the final mark.
