Getting ready for racing at Marina di Scarlino - Steiner X-Yachts Gold Cup Tessa Wiechmann
Steiner X-Yachts Gold Cup racing begins on Wednesday September 1st at Marina di Scarlino in Maremma Tuscany. The international sailing regatta for Danish built X-Yachts consists of four events: X-35 World Championship, the X-41 European Championship, the X-Yachts Gold Cup and the first edition of the X-Yachts Over 50' Invitational.

The Steiner X-Yachts Gold Cup is organized by the Yacht Club Italiano and the Club Nautico Scarlino, in collaboration with X-Yachts Italia and in partnership with Steiner.

81 yachts from Croatia, Finland, France, Great Britain, Holland, Ireland, Japan, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, and Italy will be facing off on the crystal blue waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea with the Island of Elba and of Montecristo providing a breathtaking natural backdrop.

Meticulous measurement operations wrapped up on Tuesday and competitors of the X-35 World Championship and X-41 European Championship are looking forward to battling it out on the water beginning tomorrow after the Skippers’ Briefing scheduled at 10 a.m.

Racing kicks off on Wednesday September 1st and will take place every day until Saturday the fourth. Sunday August 5th has been set aside as a reserve day should it not be possible to complete four races to assign the titles. Maximum three races per day on a windward leeward course are scheduled.

X-Yachts Gold Cup competitors are divided into three groups; Sport, Family and Over 50’. First day of racing is Thursday September 2nd and last Saturday the fourth. Once again Sunday the fifth is a reserve day. The larger yachts will be racing offshore with the Islands on the Gulf of Follonica serving as natural buoys.

Some of the great names of international sailing are taking part in the Steiner X-Yachts Gold Cup. Just to name a few, Francesco de Angelis, Luna Rossa’s skipper in the past America’s Cup edition, is racing on Le Coq Hardi, Luis Doreste, Desafio Espanol’s skipper, is on the X-41 Ibero Star, Vasco Vascotto, Mascalzone Latino’s skipper, is calling tactics on the X-35 Margherita while Lorenzo Bressani is racing on C Map.
