Team Chapman powering up - GBR youth match race nationals Nigel Vick
ISAF #54, David Chapman and his team representing the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron have taken out the GBR Youth Match Race Nationals with a clean sheet.

David with his crew, Mike Edmonds (RNZYS) and Adam Piggott (Hamble) showed why they were seeded number 1 with a perfect scorecard in the round robin to take out the event.

The racing was tough and as the wind picked up on the final day to 22-25kts the race committee made the decision to finish the regatta at the completion of the round robin.

In the the last flight, the two undefeated teams, Andy Shaw and David Chapman met each other to decide the winner.

Chapman took control early but Shaw fought back hard and rolled the Aussie team downwind but in the blustering conditions the young Antipodeans got there E6m on the plane and came at Shaw with pace. when the two boats met, Shaw failed to keep clear and was given a Penalty, as he had taken control of the match through this encounter the umpires gave a red flag to the Brits, meaning they had to take there 270 turn straight away.

The Australian led team then sailed on to take the win and the title.

All races were close throughout the round robin with the team coming back from a double penalty to win on the line.

David 'Mike and Adam did a great job calling the breeze and keeping the boat trucking along, special mention to Adam who was thrown into the deep end, as he has come straight from the multihull scene.'

The Team would like to thank everyone involved with the regatta and are now in the planning stages for a campaign for the 2011 season and beyond.
