Moth North American Championships - Adam Lowery foiling to victory

New North American Champion Crowned www.int-moth.us
Moth North American Championships was a hotly contested series, with plenty of surprises. The series was hosted by Little Traverse Bay Yacht Club in the picturesque Harbor Springs, ideal Mothing water.

Day one proved to be challenging sailing with a gusty breeze from the land spiking at 25 knots. In a series which was going to see plenty of upsets, Adam Lowery lost his rig on the way out when a shroud pin failed.

Help from the support boats plus in true Class spirit, a fleet which waited for him, he was able to repair and re-rig on the water. With the standings changing all the way, Bora Gulari won the first three races but Lowery, hot on the come-back trail, won the fourth and final. George 'Bear' Peet in contention all day was also racking up some impressive points.

Day two and with Gulari suddenly call way on TP 52 duties, the stage was all set for a titanic battle for the crown between Adam and the hardest working least sung Moth Sailor Bear Peet. Peet walked away with the first race, but after a horrendous start line collision which left Bear with a damaged and sinking Moth, it was all down to Lowery to take the crown. It still wasn't going to be easy for him as Chris Rast and Matt Knowles were finding their pace and coming on strong.

Challenged all the way by Chris Rast and Matt Knowles, Lowery kept cool through the marginal foiling of day three to take his first major Moth win.

The Battler award went to Joe Bosequet who broke his main foil on Friday, and raced in low ride mode all weekend. He's a true testament to what the class stands for.

Racing was tight throughout the fleet with many new to the class improving all the time and enjoying they're racing

The circus now moves on to the Sailing Anarchy regatta Coronado Sept 24th through 26th.
