Chicago Mackinac 2010 - Monday evening of the 102nd running of the Chicago Yacht Club's Race to Mackinac, presented by Veuve Clicquot, has hit a lull. Although today was a busy day finishing the first 113 boats, 229 are still racing.

The boats in section 9 are between 30 and 60 miles out, moving between 3 and 5 knots. The boats in the T-10 section are between 30 and 50 miles out, going between 2 and 6 knots.

Today’s light winds were best characterized by Mac Chairman Greg Freeman who joked, 'If I was just on a booze cruise it would be perfect.' Freeman is crew aboard Salsa, one of the remaining boats on the course.

When asked about his race, Shawn O’Neill, skipper of Eagle said, 'I’ve never had quite so many sail changes on the race.' The crew changed sails approximately 25 times. O’Neill, an Island Goat (someone who has done 25 or more Macs), is one of four goats on the boat now that crew member Bork Maronn just completed his 25th Mac. Congratulations to Bork and to Eagle who is the preliminary section 4 winner.

There is a cluster of boats that have made it under the Bridge and are currently heading toward the finish, however, conditions for this evening will remain light.

These are the preliminary results.

Preliminary section 4 winner,
