Pacific Cup boats slug it out in middle divisions

Pacific Cup - Limit has finished and moved off to the other side of the island, where her length and draft can be accommodated. Pegasus MotionX-50 has finished and is on the way to our docks for a well-earned maitai and lei welcoming. The trio of Santa Cruz finishers watches Criminal Mischief’s progress, fearful that she may interfere with the Santa Cruz trifecta of a triple clean sweep (First, Second, and Third in Division and Fleet).
Unofficially, it appears that Horizon has indeed accomplished the clean sweep of First to finish, First in class, and First overall.
Meanwhile, out on the ocean Nancy, Friction Loss, and Green Buffalo, three very different boats, are within half a day of each other in predicted times, and are in close contention for victory in Division A, consisting of the Pacific Cup’s original core of moderate obtainable boats. Green Buffalo, a Cal 40, is physically out in front, but handicapping rules mean she must beat the other two by a substantial margin to take home the silver.
In Division B, Sweet Oklole skippered by Dean Treadway, continues to dominate, with nearly a day’s advantage on her closest competitors. The battle for second, however, between Relentless and Coyote, separates the two boats by only a few hours.
The real battle, however, is found in Division C. The five top boats are separated by less than eight hours in predicted time. Any error, or a spinnaker wrap, or failed gear, can drop a boat from one to seven or more places. The racers are finishing as this is written.
