RS Feva Worlds 2010 – the Carnac Crunch

by Golly Tucker on 13 Jul 2010
RS Fevas off the start line RS Sailing http://www.rssailing.com
2010 RS Feva World Champion will be decided by the some 135 Fevas who entered for the contest. Eight or nine countries are taking part for this epic on the Baie de Quiberon in Southern Brittany. It is now less than two weeks to go 24 -31 July!

The Dutch Fleet has expanded dramatically this year and a goodly number are making their way to this amazing part of the world even as this is written – their holidays having already started! A number of Dutch boats came over to the UK for some race training at the opening GP of 2010 at Draycote. Whilst the weather was hot the same can’t be said of the windspeed that weekend so perhaps they didn’t manage to learn as much as all that. The Italians however had better luck coming over with two2 or three boats for both the Nationals and the Torbay GP. Ominously they improved rapidly!

The UK fleet will be well represented with about 40% of the fleet displaying GBR on their mains. Whilst there are a couple of boats that have regularly been at the front of the GP’s and the Nationals it hasn’t been in such a way as to have anyone stake an inviolable claim to be favourites. Indeed I don’t think I’d hang that millstone around
anyone’s neck anyway.

Suffice it to say that there are a number of boats from the both the Class National Squad and the RYA National Junior Squad that are likely to be smelling the sweet ambrosia that the Spanish footballers just tasted before they get half way through the week (entirely metaphorically of course…)! But only one will scoop the pot and will it be GBR? The Irish will be fancying their chances this year having had a top 10 finisher at the Euros last year and whom is also back.
