Marlow Ropes Award has been awarded to Chloe Martin, which has come to serve as a boost as she prepares for the Laser Radial World Championships which kicks off tomorrow (Friday 9 July) in Largs.

Having this month just been signed up to Skandia Team GBR’s Development Squad, and last month crowned Under 21 European Champion, the Marlow Award kick-starts an exciting new phase of the 20-year-old’s campaign.

She comments: 'Coming into the Skandia Team GBR is a big step. They have literally got everything you can think of covered and that is so exciting to be part of.'

'I’ve only done a couple of squad camps during term time so it will probably be too early to see the impact of some of the things I’ve been working on at Largs. I’ll be looking to get good starts, have some good races and learn as much as I can to take into the rest of the years events.'

The Marlow award entitles Martin to free Marlow rope for a year and a financial boost. Previous winners, double World 470 champions Nic Asher and Elliot Willis and 2008 Olympic Yngling gold medallist Pippa Wilson, have also benefited from the award.

Martin continued: 'It's really great to get the Marlow Ropes Award and it will make a big difference to my campaign this year.'

'I left the Laser Radial for a year after I started university and did some double-handed sailing for a while so when I came back to the Radial some of my kit was a bit tatty and the ropes were all fraying.'

'Marlow Rope is very good rope and to be receiving free rope for a year, especially with it being my final year at university, will help me replace all my old rope at no cost, which will be a massive help,' she concluded.

Marlow Ropes introduced the award in 2002 with the aim of rewarding Britain’s most promising rookies for their determination, focus and talent.

Skandia Team GBR Development Squad Manager Barrie Edgington said: 'Chloe has shown she is full of potential posting some good results since she has returned to her Radial sailing the past year - an ideal recipient of the award. She is absolutely one to watch for the future.'

Martin is joined by Hannah Mills’ new 470 partner Claire Cumming as well as up-and-coming Elliot 6m keelboat sailors, Kate Macgregor, Beth Carden and Emma Clarke - in joining the Skandia Team GBR Development Squad this quarter.

As well as supporting up-and-coming sailors, Marlow Ropes are also the official supplier and exclusive team ropes partner to Skandia Team GBR thanks to its industry-renowned reputation for producing products tried, tested and trusted in the world’s harshest environments.

Marlow Marketing & Yachting Sales Manager and company director Paul Honess said: 'We find that working with team members such as Chloe helps us to develop our products. In turn we at Marlow can educate team members on the latest materials and rope constructions to help keep British sailors at the leading edge.'
