Flying Dutchman World Championships
by Event media on 31 Aug 2002
The first day of racing on 29 August saw the Hungarian
pair Szabolcs Majthenyi/Andras Domokos win the first race, leading from the
start and first around the top mark. Spanish sailors Francisco Martinez/José
Rodenas had a bad start but sailed through the fleet to finish second.
Three time World Champions Ian Mc Crossin and James Cook of Australia took
third. Winds were light and shifting.
The only female pair in the regatta, Germans Elisa Koenig and Julia
Weissbach occupy the 16th position.
Celebrating 50 years in 2002, the Flying Dutchman class has attracted an
international fleet of 49 boats to this year's Worlds, with teams from
Australia, New Zealand, USA, Netherlands, Germany and Great Britain.
Racing continues through Tuesday 3 September.
