Online logbook Saild.com has launched this weekend at the Round The Island Race. The site allows users to log their sailing and gives them the ability to upload log entries, photos, videos and tracks from Navionics and other GPS apps.

Saild was born from it's founders Duncan's pain of having to copy our logbooks and deal with the fact that he and his crew always managed to lose their logbooks. 'The thought of, their must be a better way, passed through my head for a long time' Says Duncan.

The site has been designed with both functionality and look and feel at its very heart since the beginning. The team designer Laura said, our goal was 'To build a sailing log that works for sailors that is fast, visually appealing and joyous to use and is more than just a line of text in a book'.

Once logged into the site, any user, skipper or crew can add entries to their log detailing: weather, distance and a description of what they're planning or what they've done. They can add other crew and skippers by email address or by name if they're already on the site. Everyone on a trip is able to upload photos, log entries and videos.

Users can even update their log while on the water by sending tracks from Navionics and other GPS apps to the email address that is sent to them when they create the trip. They can also upload images which if taken with a GPS phone such as the iPhone or Droid will automatically place it's self on a map on the trip page.

Duncan believes that this is a great evolution which completes the picture with respect to linking existing technologies together.

'There is a great opportunity here for us to get logbooks that are both more accurate, more automated and easier to use. I now have a very clear view and track of exactly where I've been sailing and who with.'

Not limited to just sailboats, Saild is also aimed at dinghies and powerboats. With new features being released very regularly the site is free to join which gives all of the core functionality with a Pro paid version which will have extra functionality and an iPhone app coming soon.
