Keith Glover's record-breaking trimaran Trilogy has secured the prestigious honour of claiming the fastest overall course times in Hog's Breath Race Week regatta.
Trilogy has excelled in the stronger wind races over the longer courses to set two records and lead the OMR rated handicap fastest times over the Grainger catamaran and Brisbane to Gladstone race line honours winner Flat Chat racing in this championship as Emultihulls. Com with Whitsunday skipper Keith Roberts at the helm.
Skipper Glover has been well supported by talented young sailors Joel Berg and Ben Kelly who help to create the power sailing speed which has made Trilogy the stand out speed sailing performer.
Trilogy claimed another record in yesterdays 38 n/ml Island Passage Race when she reached speeds in the high 20-knot range to complete the course in 3 hours 29 minutes and 22 minutes faster than the IRC class line honours winner Line 7.
Sure the lighter and higher power to weight ratio of Trilogy gives her a big advantage over Line 7 but her crew still had to produce the high speed sailing averages to win the 'Cock Of The Pioneer Bay' award.
However Trilogy will still need to produce another unmatched display of power sailing on Pioneer Bay today to win the Performance Handicap class championship where nine crews are separated by the narrow margin of ten points.
Whitsunday Sailing Club skippers Leo Rodriguez (Highly Strung) and Zippy (Bernie McErlane) jointly lead with 23 points followed by Wahoo (Neville Hooey) and Emultihulls.com on 24 points, Wilparina 11 (Rob Remilton, Goolwa SA) 25pts, Trilogy 27pts, A Room With A View (Matt Jensen, Cairns) 30pts, Livewire (Polly Fitzgerald, Whitsunday) 32 points and Italina (John Bohle, Cairns) 33pts.
The compact nature of this exciting battle suggests all crews will sail on the fine line of high performance speed in ideal 20-25 knot South East trade winds in the final race today where the best heavy wind sailing performance will go a long way towards winning the class championship.
