Class 1 mourns Mauro Ravenna

by UIM class 1 on 2 Jun 2010
The late, great, Mauro Ravenna Class 1 World Powerboat Championship http://www.class-1.com
The world of Class 1 is deeply saddened to learn of the tragic loss of its former promoter, Mauro Ravenna, who died yesterday in Cuba from injuries sustained in a car crash in April.

Mauro was the UIM Promoter of the Class 1 World Powerboat Championship from 1992 to 1996 - going on to become the promoter of the successful UIM Aquabike Championship - laying the foundation of the modern-day championship format that Class 1 runs today. 'It is a very, very sad moment for everyone in the Class 1 community and for everyone fortunate to have known and worked with him,' said IOTA general secretary, Marco Sala. 'For sure he will leave a lasting impression on our sport and in the powerboat racing world and, most of all, in the hearts of everyone he met.'

It is fitting that before his untimely loss, Mauro was the recipient of the first-ever Stefano Casiraghi Memorial Trophy, which he received at the UIM Awards Ceremony in Monaco in March, given in recognition of special service to the sport, and presented to him for his commitment to the development and improvement of powerboating throughout his illustrious career.
