Belize - a dream for a bare-boat sailing holiday

The growing popularity of Belize as a sailing holiday destination has been underlined by the steady increase in charter yachts available in the Central American country.

Sitting on the eastern coast of the coastline facing the Caribbean Sea, Belize is a unique treasure in the sailing world, and world-wide charter company Sunsail has now given it their a vote of confidence by putting their newest yacht charter base there, opening in November 2010.

Located in Placencia, the new Belize base is the perfect starting point for a wonderfully varied charter holiday. With the picturesque Belizean coast stretching out over 185 miles, there is an abundance of things to do and see.

The marine life here is dazzling and yearning to be explored.

Discover Belize’s Mesoamerican Barrier Reef; the longest unbroken reef in the western hemisphere. Coral gardens featuring over 70 types of hard corals, the distinguished Blue Hole, nearly 500 species of fish including playful dolphins, fascinating whale sharks, graceful sea turtles and elegant eagle rays all make up Belize’s sensational sea life.

With visibility usually extending hundreds of feet, diverse dive sites and extensive sea life, Belize will not disappoint.

Whether you choose to rest undisturbed on the top deck of your yacht watching the waves break in the distance, snorkel in waist deep water amidst schools of colourful fish, or venture inland to the rainforests for the day where you’ll find waterfalls and jungle canopies, Belize is one destination worth discovering.

The sailing here is consistent, with trade winds blowing along the coast most of the year and the water inside the reef is calm with few waves.

This, combined with a wonderfully fresh breeze, makes the sailing in Belize superb.

As Belize is ideally suited for catamaran sailing, the new base will be offering the brand new award-winning Sunsail 384 catamarans for charter.
