When the wind blows and the seas are high, you can normally sleep secure that your yacht is safe in its marina - that's unless it has a direct hit by a passing tornado.
So spare a thought for the owners of 275 boats who were in for a nasty surprise when they woke up one morning this week.
Bob Davis has owned the Little River Marina at Lake Thunderbird State Park in Oklahoma USA for 20 years, but he hardly recognizes it following the tornado that hit the marina overnight.
Davis said the marina, worth about $2 million — not including the 275 or so boats that were docked there — is a total loss. 'It was a direct hit,” he said. 'The whole marina is wrapped tight into a cluster. I can’t even identify one dock from another.”
Leslie Blair, public information officer at Lake Thunderbird, said the state park was closed, much of it indefinitely, but some only until water and power can be restored.
