The Sturgeon Lake Sailing Club, located 2 hours north east of Toronto in Ontario's Kawartha Lakes, will be hosting the 2010 Canadian Laser Masters' Championships from Friday, July 23 to Sunday, July 25, 2010.

The Sturgeon Lake club has had a long history of hosting Laser events. Since 1972, the Club has hosted the Mid Ontario Championship Regatta, one of the consistently largest Laser regattas in Ontario. In 2008, the Club was host of the Provincial Laser Masters Championship Regatta and, in 2009, it was the host of the District 3 Laser and Radial Championship Regatta.

Sturgeon Lake keeps getting chosen to host important regattas and sailors keep showing up in big numbers to those regattas because the atmosphere at the club is so great and the RC work so sound. The Club has earned a reputation for fine hospitality. The regattas are a community effort. Sailors all stay in the village of Sturgeon Point, put up at host cottages around the Village. Spouses and guests are welcome. Meals are all supplied by the host club and are communal events for the sailors.

Ontario Masters sailor Rob Koci, secretary of District 3, supported of SLSC's application to host the 2010 Canadian Masters with these words: 'And may I add my approbations to [SLSC's application]. Sturgeon Lake Sailing Club is one of the most hospitable clubs in District 3, and to make matters even better, close to the best, if not the best, at ensuring top quality, consistent race committee work. I heartily endorse this club as an excellent choice to host the Canadian Laser Masters. The regatta will be a pleasant memory for all who attend for years to come.'

The regatta is open to all Masters age 35 and over and the organizers are expecting Canadian and international masters sailors from across North America. The event will celebrate sailing as a lifelong passion and the quality of racing will be excellent. The hope is that many former Laser sailors will jump back into a Laser to sail this event, just because it should be such fun.

For information on the regatta, including the NOR, on line registration, directions and a list of attendees, check out the regatta website at: www.slsc.ca/cdn-masters/
