Under 50 yachts have ever sailed through the Northwest Passage above Canada, and Australia's Berrimilla, skippered by veteran yachtsman Alex Whitworth and two crew, negotiated it in 2008. While this is a great feat, he was only using it as a method of reaching the starting line for the Fastnet Race. Meet him and listen to his enthralling story at the Cruising Yacht Club in Sydney's Rushcutters Bay in June.
Alex Whitworth and Peter Crozier, 'Cruising yachtsmen that race a little', will be at the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia (CYCA) on Wednesday 16th June 6.30pm.
Earlier you heard about Alex’s and Peter’s first circumnavigation in 2005. But veteran yachtsman Alex likes a challenge so this time Berrimilla went via the daunting North West Passage, thus becoming the first yacht to circumnavigate the world under sail via both Cape Horn and the North West Passage – opposite ends of the Americas.
Hear all about this second circumnavigation including another Sydney Hobart/Fastnet double in Berrimilla, a 10.1m, Brolga 33 designed by Australian Peter Joubert.
It will be great night of unique experiences. Arrive early, view the yacht, enjoy dinner on the deck and
be seated for the 6.30pm start.
