Aegean Yacht Rally gets under way again

by Trevor Joyce on 7 May 2010
First stop on the rally is the Greek island of Samos - Aegean Yacht Rally Maggie Joyce http://marinerboating.com.au
The 2010 Mariner Boating Rally season gets under way in Turkey and Greece next week. The Aegean Yacht Rally will kick off from Kusadasi and cross immediately into Greece and Pythagorion on the Island of Samos.

Pythagorus, who was born here, was clearly a great mathematician although the modern day Greeks seems to have lost the plot when it comes to adding up simple arithmetic.

It's then on down through the wonderful islands of the Greek Dodecanese group; Arki, Patmos, Lipsos, Leros and Kalimnos before the rally fleet exits Greece and re-enters Turkey in Bodrum.

The coastal run from Bodrum back to the operating base of the yachts, Marmaris, will include a number of secluded bays where the pine trees at the waters edge will add a perfume to the evening breeze.

Along the way there will be six casual races to add a little excitement to the program and to foster the social intercourse between the crews.

The racing will again use the famous Mariner handicapping system; Trevs International Timing System that will ensure all yachts are tied on points at the beginning of the last race.

Dress for the last night will be in Traditional Turkish costume and if this year follows in the wake of the last six Aegean Rallies a great night to end a great two weeks will be had by all.
