NEISA Women's Championship – Final results

by ICSA on 26 Apr 2010
Brown Bears competing at the 2010 NEISA Women’s Championship Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) . http://www.collegesailing.org/
It was a gorgeous day on the Providence River on Saturday, with temperatures in the 60s and sunny skies. Two races sailed in each division in a northerly that slowly died out by noon. Winds ranged between four and 15 knots in the northerly.

There was a long delay as we waited for the sea breeze to fill in. At 3:30pm it started to fill from the south and rapidly built to 15-18 knots with nice waves. Four more races were sailed in each division in the south, south-westerly breeze and we sailed the last B-set until 7:15pm.

All courses were windward/leewards with an offset and gate. Two requests for redress were filed. Redress was given to UVM for a breakdown and one redress to be heard on Sunday from Dartmouth.

A drizzly, damp and light start to Sunday with south, south-easterly winds from four to six knots. Only two A races were sailed in the dying breeze. A long delay until around 1:30pm when a nice southerly filled in at 6-12 knots and a little sunshine even broke through the clouds.

Two B-sets and one A-set were completed for a total of 10 races in the new breeze. All windward/leeward courses were sailed and no protests were filed.

The redress hearing was denied for Dartmouth from Saturday and was heard during the no wind delay. Racing came down to the wire for final qualifying berths for Nationals. An 11th A race was completed, but the 11th B race could not be started because of the 4:30 time limit.

Thanks to our judges Jeff Dusek, Leo Berendes, and George Crocker. Thanks as well to the Brown sailors that helped out: Colin Smith 13, Logan Shanney 13, Tommy Fink 13, Ashley Noble 13 and Evan Gill 12.

The Brown Bears win the Reed Trophy and Harvard finishes second. Both teams will move on to the ICSA Women's Nationals Finals to be sailed later in May at the University of Wisconsin.

Congratulations as well to Boston College, Connecticut College, Tufts, Yale, and Dartmouth who finished third through seventh respectively and will compete at the Women's National Semi-finals at the University of Wisconsin.
