18 teams to contest Club Marine National Keel Boat Championship

Up to 18 teams will hit the water to contest the prestigious Club Marine National Keelboat Championship title starting April 29th. Royal Akarana Yacht Club will host the event which runs over four days with the winner to be decided on May 2nd

Entry remains open until the 18 places are filled, so act now if you're interested – visit the RAYC website for details. Racing will take place in the RAYC's fleet of Platu 25 yachts setting the scene for close racing in identical one-design boats.

Skippers entered so far in the hunt for the title include Andrew Wills, Alistair Gair, Simon Dickey and Reuben Corbett. Two international teams will also join the mix with an entry apiece from New Caledonia and Australia.

Registration and practice is planned for the 29th followed by two days of qualifying. The final day will see the top ten teams contest the finals.

The reigning National Keelboat Champion is Josh Junior who won the title in 2009 sailing with Matthew Steven, Luke O'Connel, Matthew Clough and Jonathon Clough from Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club and the Wellington Yachting Association.
