Australian Ashley Lane Leads Laser 4.7 Worlds

Ashlie Lane getting ready for race 2 - Laser 4.7 World Youth Championships, Pattaya Thailand Royal Varuna Yacht Club .
Australia's Ashley Lane has asserted her position on top of the leader board after day three of the 2010 Laser 4.7 World Championships in Pattaya, Thailand.

The Australian team enjoyed another fantastic day on the water for races 5 and 6. Conditions have remained consistent throughout the event and the Australian sailors remain consistently amongst the front pack.

In almost a carbon copy of day two Australian sailors Ashley Lane, Caitlin Elks and Ella Evans streaked the fleet for a runaway podium performance. Ashley backed this up with a powerful third in her other race..

Another outstanding performer on Day 3 was WA's Mark Spearman in the Under 16 mixed division. A third and first position moved Mark into equal second within striking distance of the lead. This division is incredibly tight on points and like all others will be a test of nerves and endurance over the coming days.

Today the team has a rest at the half way mark. Tomorrow will see another two races sailed in typically hot onshore winds. The major change will be the spring tide turning against the wind making starts critical and waters choppy.

Australian results after Race 6

Under 16 Mixed Championship
2nd Mark Spearman
17th Chris Andersen
21st Melissa Hitchen-Haw

Under 18 Men's Championship
24th Ben Walkemeyer

Under 18 Girl's Championship
1st Ashley Lane
4th Catlin Elks
5th Ella Evans
12th Louise Evans
24th Milly Bennett
