World Champion Sailor adds pedigree to top Sydney brokerage

by John Curnow on 24 Mar 2010
Jason Rowed and the whole Sydney Yachting Centre team are ready to help you. John Curnow
Pedigree is something that the Sydney Yachting Centre certainly has in abundance. They have specialised in new and used boat brokerage for more than 30 years and they combine their relaxing location with an industry leading professionalism.

The delightful Sydney Yachting Centre office is on the end of the quay at the Middle Harbour Yacht Club on The Spit, near Mosman and is unquestionably one of the most idyllic locations on Sydney's beautiful harbour. Without doubt, it is also one of the more relaxed and beautiful places in the world to visit if you are interested in buying or selling a boat.

Perhaps this is what drew Jason Rowed to become the new leader of this crew. It is definitely this relaxed approach that Jason is keen to emphasise. 'We have an enormous depth of industry experience in our team and we make the time to talk with our clients to ensure they buy the boat that's just right for them. We really do find that once people get down here and look out over the setting, they relax and get talking with us about boats, their weekend racing or how to fix a system onboard', Jason explained as a way of demonstrating how they would rather listen and guide, rather than push and hard-sell.

Amongst this famous harbour's close-knit boating fraternity, much of Sydney Yachting Centre's success has come from repeat business. Many clients have returned several times, over the years, to upgrade to larger or faster boats. 'It goes without saying that honesty and integrity are core to our business,' says Jason. 'However, we also aim to make selling or buying a boat a simple and stress-free process for our clients.'

To help maintain their enviable reputation, the Sydney Yachting Centre team is the most experienced on Sydney Harbour, not only in sales, but also in boat construction, racing and cruising. Collectively there is over 100 years of industry knowledge and experience in the team, which is why you can be sure that they have the best pedigree throughout Sydney's entire harbour.

Geoff Pearson, the founder of the Sydney Yachting Centre, was also the owner of Northshore Yachts from 1995 to 2008. During that time, they were the largest manufacturer of Australian sailing boats. Additionally, Geoff has extensive racing and cruising experience.

Jason Rowed, the most recent member of the Sydney Yachting Centre, is one of Australia's top sailors. As a professional sailor, he was the 2004 Mumm30 World Champion and in 2005 he took out the Farr 40 World's. That very same year, he was onboard the then newly-built Wild Oats XI and got to be part of one of the most exciting Sydney-Hobart finishes ever, when they took out the triple of Line Honours, Race Record and Handicap win.

A qualified shipwright, Jason started out with Northshore Yachts and later, with his brother Mark, they worked with the late Ian Bashford in setting up Sydney Yachts (Bashford Boats) in Nowra. That was almost two decades ago and more recently, Jason was instrumental in developing the sales and marketing success of the Farr 40 class in Australia. His last achievement was to 'put a pin on the yacht sales map', as the Brand Manager for Marten Yachts.

Now of course, a lot of people have also worked out that he is the man to speak with in regard to the new Ker-designed, Sydney Yachts, GTS37. Clearly he is the man in the know.

Broker Matt Pyne, has been with the Sydney Yachting Centre for more than a decade and is a 25 year veteran of the industry, in both Victoria and NSW. As one of the most knowledgeable brokers in Sydney, he brings passion to the business and is committed to outstanding customer service and sharing information with clients.

The Sydney Yachting Centre is a member of the Boating Industry Association, an accredited member of the Marine Broker's Association and an authorised Club Marine Insurance agent to cater for all your boat insurance needs. 'We're proud of our professionalism and we also provide project management of new builds or refits, repairs and maintenance to your existing craft', Jason added.

The Sydney Yachting Centre is easy to find, sitting pretty at the Middle Harbour Yacht Club, which is midway between Sydney's CBD and the Northern beaches. There is plenty of parking or you may even choose to arrive by boat!

'Drop by, have a coffee, take in the surroundings and chat with us about your needs', says Jason. 'We guarantee, at the very minimum, you'll leave feeling more relaxed. You may even find that boat you've been dreaming about!'

The first 10 buyers who read this article, will also get a free sailing lesson in their new vessel, which is bound to add to your whole relaxing experience. Only the Sydney Yachting Centre team can offer a lesson from a team with such a pedigree.

All of which will make it one very memorable time indeed.
