The Box of Rain Foundation, an Annapolis organization that was established in 2002 to serve disadvantaged Annapolis youth, is holding its annual fundraiser at the Annapolis Maritime Museum on April 10. The event, co-chaired by world-class sailor Terry Hutchinson, and Regan Weaver, will feature live music, an open bar, and a traditional Chesapeake Bay oyster roast. Silent and live auction items will include foul weather gear used in recent America's Cup and Volvo Round the World Races, as well as the Northeaster Dory that Box of Rain’s kids are building in this winter's Boatbuilding by the Bay Program.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Box of Rain Foundation and Annapolis Community Boating.  Anne Harrington, Founder and Chairwoman of the Box of Rain Foundation Board of Directors, noted that 'this effort will raise funds that go directly to the summer program and the training of at-risk youth in Annapolis, and will assist two local charities in fulfilling their community-based, maritime-related missions.'

Rock & Roast Tickets are $50 and can be purchased at www.boxofrain.org or by calling 410-533-4273.

Box of Rain is a 501(3)(c) organization and was established to honor the memory of Lee Griffin, a generous member of the Annapolis community, who was the victim of a homicide in downtown Annapolis in 2002. Lee’s life and dual passions for sailing and his community are celebrated in the Box of Rain summer and winter programs that offer local youth-at-risk, ages 8-14, opportunities to gain self-esteem and to develop life skills that lead to positive contributions to the community through maritime experiences that include sailing, boating, water safety and environmental studies, as well as developing maritime trade skills.

Annapolis Community Boating is a community-based, not for profit organization that provides boating education and access for the residents of Anne Arundel County. Advisory Board member Lorie Stout noted that Annapolis Community Boating 'enjoys working with other non-profit organizations, such as the Box of Rain Foundation, that are structured to provide a specific community boating niche, and we look forward to partnering with them to raise funds for two tremendously worthwhile organizations.'
