The 'Voices of Classic Rock' was formed in 1998 for a one-time special performance at the 25th Anniversary of the PGA TOUR’s Players Championship. The magic which occurred on stage that evening gave rise to seven subsequent years of touring and recording, including more than 125 performances on four different continents, digital releases on MP3.com, a traditional album release with the Compendia Music Group and live performances on the USA Network and the internationally syndicated radio program 'Rockline'. The 'Voices Rock the Regatta' show will be a reunion of sorts, the ensemble’s first live performance together since 2005.
Mike Reno is the voice that propelled Loverboy to super-group status, resulting in its 2009 induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. With a record nine Juno awards – more than any other recipient -- Loverboy has sold more than 60,000,000 records worldwide, including six multi-platinum albums. Reno and Loverboy have enjoyed nine Top 40 hits, including Working for the Weekend, Turn Me Loose, This Could Be The Night, Hot Girls in Love, Lovin’ Every Minute of It, and Heaven in Your Eyes (from the film 'Top Gun'). Mike Reno scored a solo Number One with his Adult Contemporary classic Almost Paradise, the love theme from the motion picture 'Footloose.'
Bobby Kimball’s voice led Toto to six (6) Grammy awards in 1982, including recognition for Album of the Year and Song of the Year. With more than 30,000,000 worldwide record sales, Kimball and Toto scored a memorable Number One with their classic Africa. Rosanna – Toto’s Grammy winner for Song of the Year – soared to Number Two on the Billboard Charts, as they also scored a Top Five with their rocker Hold The Line.
John Cafferty is known simply as the 'man who made Eddie Cruise.' A veteran of the northeast U.S. club circuit from the Jersey Shore to the Massachusetts Cape, Cafferty was taped to write and perform the soundtrack for a little known independent movie, 'Eddie and the Cruisers.' The film became an instant success and with it John Cafferty enjoyed a multi-platinum album and was propelled to superstardom. His hit On the Darkside (from 'Eddie and the Cruisers') hit Number One on Billboard’s Rock Chart, while his follow-up release Tender Years scored an AC Top Ten. Cafferty’s sophomore release Tough All Over also hit Number One on the Billboard Rock Chart, while the follow-up release C-I-T-Y scored a Billboard Pop Chart Top Twenty.
Tommy Tutone emerged from the fertile San Francisco music scene in the early 1980’s to score one of the decade’s most memorable hits in 867-5309/Jenny. Jenny rose to a Billboard Top Five, and propelled Tommy Tutone to both Platinum and household name status. Two follow-ups cracked the Billboard Top 40, including Angel Say No and to this day Tommy Tutone remains a prolific writer and performer pursuing a cross-over career in Nashville.
The St. Maarten Heineken Regatta organization would like to commend The Princess Port de Plaisance for lending their property for an event of such magnitude. The property is undergoing a quick renovation and will be boasting a new façade come Regatta time!
