by www.sail-world.com on 10 Feb 2010
SWISH, Sail Number: 6073, Skipper: Steven Proud, State: NSW, Division: IRC / OD, Design: Sydney 38, LOA (m): 11.78, Draft: 2.63 - (2009 Rolex Sydeny to Hobart) Rolex/ Kurt Arrigo http://www.regattanews.com

The ORCi division was introduced into the race for the first time this year in response to a growing push among Australian owners for a more measurement-based, transparent rule than IRC.

Two True (Andrew Saies), Beneteau First 40 won the 2009 Rolex Sydney Hobart on ORCi as well as on IRC.
Second was and Steven Prouds Sydney 48 Swish. Third was Tony Kirby's Patrice Six, a X-yacht X-41.

Ragamuffin's veteran skipper Syd Fischer, who finished nineth under ORCi was strongly behind the move towards the news offshore rating ssystem. He was both surprised and gratified that 33 boats in the 100-boat fleet, raced under ORCi as well as IRC. 'I think it will be a great rule because it's fully measured, transparent and we don't have anyone's input into it other than the measurements,' he said.

'It's fair. I can't stand anything that isn't fair because people spend a lot of money on these boats. If you look around the world there's billions of dollars spent on them and they've come into what's a club rule.'

Of Ospreys, Eagles, Falcons, and Moths
Birds of prey. Insects. All of them airborne? How does it all apply here? Time to find out! All are airborne. The first three are birds of prey. The last one is an insect. All are so completely different. The first three have also had their name, formidable qualities and fantastic reputations applied to fantastic aircraft made by Boeing.

The Ocean Cleanup's 30 Cities Program
A look at The Ocean Cleanup and its the 30 Cities Program The cliche goes that one should avoid meeting one's heroes, as there's always a chance that the flesh-and-blood person might not live up to expectations. While I've never met Boyan Slat, I'd gladly take this risk.

Double Double
And the rest of the line is not toil and trouble, but quadruple, then another double… On the eve of the 100th Fastnet that has attracted some 464 entries, I heard of one entry in this record fleet that seemed so very apt. Not only because it includes the Commodore of the RORC, but because it combines two Brits and two Aussies.
