Ullman Sails success at Audi Victoria Week

Audi Victoria Week in Geelong, Australia, continues to go from strength to strength with 441 yachts partaking in multiple divisions.

Geelong yachtsman Rob Hanna invited Dave Ullman to do tactics aboard his recently acquired TP52 'Shogun'.

The Division 1 fifty footers provided some really close racing with only seconds between boats around the course and on time. With some assistance from 'local' Ullman rep Tony Bull and Sam Haines on spinnaker trim, they were able to sneak onto the podium in the last race with a strong finish to the regatta. The new Ullman sails looked cherry ripe and despite a few minor gear failures Shogun finished the top TP52.

Off the water, Ullman Sails Geelong’s onsite loft was a hive of activity each night, repairing sails and getting boats back out on the water. With so many boats, there was always something to do. Sam Haines’ involvement in the Sydney 38 class looks to begin reaping more rewards as this class continues to stay strong with 10 boats competing.

The Sydney 38 guys were regulars after the racing at the loft asking for information and advice. And Tony Bull was enlisted by Vicsail each morning to give a weather briefing and précis of the expected day’s sailing conditions, which was well received by all the Beneteau owners competing.

Dave Ullman was also a guest of honour at the Legends breakfast and was interviewed about his thoughts on the America’s Cup, his past achievements in yachting and his future programmes. The breakfast was set in a picturesque setting overlooking the docklands waterfront and was conducted in a jovial environment which produced a fun morning. The crowd included so many world champions, Olympic medallists and yachting luminaries it was amazing.

Ullman Sails looks forward to next year’s Audi Victoria Week.
