The magnificent new Hamilton Island Yacht Club is one of the exceptional venues chosen for internationally acclaimed chef, Tetsuya Wakuda, when he hosts the launch of the new Great Barrier Feast Series on Hamilton Island in March.

He will be joined by renowned wine critic, James Halliday, who is selecting the wines for the Series, and former MasterChef presenter, Sarah Wilson will be the MC.

Historically an annual event on Hamilton Island’s noted culinary calendar, this exclusive food and wine series will offer some exciting new features when it makes a welcome return this year. The series will now comprise three ‘Chef’s Table’ weekends, the first in March, then in July and November. Each event promises to showcase the finest of food and wine in a world class setting.

The inaugural event, scheduled for 12-14 March, 2010, will involve two of the island’s premier venues, the impressive Hamilton Island Yacht Club and the award winning luxury resort, qualia. Commencing with a beachside welcome dinner, the ‘Feast’ will also feature master classes by Tetsuya and a champagne lunch at the Yacht Club.

At each stage Great Barrier Feast guests will have the opportunity to find out more about the famous chef, a man who is acclaimed for his ability to produce unique cuisine based on the Japanese philosophy of natural seasonal flavours, enhanced by classic French technique. At the Grand Finale event, a showpiece dinner at qualia, Tetsuya will take guests through the preparation of his culinary delights via a live camera link-up from the kitchen.

Tetsuya's exceptional food will be complemented by premium wines personally selected by James Halliday for each meal. He will also be providing tasting tips throughout the weekend.

Nicky Oatley, Hamilton Island Special Events Manager, commented, ‘Tetsuya is widely accepted as Australia’s most celebrated chef and he has influenced professional chefs and amateur food lovers alike through his distinctive culinary style.  We are honoured that he will launch this series for us.’

Luxury packages are being offered for the gourmet weekend. Guests can choose between accommodation at the premier luxury resort, Qualia, or the Five Star Beach Club.
