Record Entries for Over the Moon Australian Spiral Championships

by Nicole Douglass on 22 Jan 2010
YRS Training in Canberra - Over the Moon Australian Spiral Championships Craig Davidson
The Over the Moon Australian Spiral Championships commences tomorrow on Lake Burley Griffin from the Canberra Yacht Club. Entries are now at a record breaking 63, the largest ever for a Spiral Nationals.

The event will be hotly contested due to both the fleet size and quality. The entry list includes local champions such as current three time Junior Spiral Champion Chris Eddes, now one to watch in the Opens and Hugh Gallagher who is favourite for Junior this year. Current National Champ Murray Gordon will be back with an aim to defend his title along with fellow Northern Beaches sailor Tom Spithill, professional coach and of the great Spithill sailing family.

The Ladies category is sure to be just as competitive as the Opens, with the likes of Nicole Douglass, current Tasar World Champion now at the helm, as well as Mel Davidson, who is lightning fast in the light winds and comes from a family of Spiral Champions.

'I am so thrilled to be involved with such a prestigious event and to have broken the entry record is a fantastic result' said Sponsor Debra Nowell from Over the Moon Promotions. 'Especially with so many local entries this event will really be one to watch'.

Over the Moon Promotions is also the major sponsor of the Canberra Yacht Club Youth Racing Squad. The squad will be out in force with 16 representatives for the Championship, and with Coach Craig Davidson in their corner also a former Spiral National Champion thrice over they are sure to be highly competitive. Keep an eye out for their signature red rash shirts.
