Welcome to Sail-World.Com's New Zealand newsletter for 28 December 2009
It has been an incredible finish for the New Zealand sailing year, with Neville Crichton's Alfa Romeo taking line and possibly overall honours in the 65th edition of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Race. That effort comes on the heels of Adam Minoprio and the Blackmatch crew taking the ISAF World Matchracing Championship and finishing on top of the rankings in mid-December.
Then came the great news that the ww.wetamarine.com!Weta designed by New Zealanders Roger and Chris Kitchen have won the prestigious Dinghy of the Year award from Sailing World magazine. You can see the partial review http://www.sailingworld.com/1001boty!by_clicking_here
Alfa Romeo's effort in the Rolex Sydney Hobart has got sailing back on the front of the sports and general news pages> This was a superb effort from Neville Crichton and his crew who have a very professional approach to their campaigns, and it will always take an extremely competent crew plus a lot of good luck to head off Crichton and his team.
No-one was up to this task in the 2009 Rolex Sydney Hobart.
Who knows where and when we will see another match up with the three top supermaxis in the world, representing three different countries, and each with such outstanding competitive records?
