Around St.Maarten-St.Martin MultiHull Regatta announced
by St.Maarten-St.Martin media on 23 Dec 2009
Trimaran "ATLANTIS" will return from Rio de Janeiro to participate in the first St.Maarten-St.Martin Multihull Regatta February 27, 2010 - Around St.Maarten-St.Martin MultiHull Regatta SW
Public Relations and Special Events company 'WIE' ( West Indies Events ) announced today that they are organizing the first ever Around St.Maarten-St.Martin MultiHull Regatta this coming February 27th 2010 in St.Maarten / St.Martin.
An introductory meeting was hosted by Pat Turner at 'Tropical Wave Restaurant' at Le Gallion last week where the organizers had invited several multihull owners to discuss the technical details of this new event.
Philipsburg, Great Bay will be the start and finish locations for this Around the Island Multihull Regatta on the 27th of February 2010.
The race will see catamarans, trimarans and a separate beach cat class in what promises to be a great first race that will go around the Island clockwise.
One of the points brought up in the meeting was safety, especially for the fast but fragile beach cats. Several safety boats will be arranged to follow the racers, big and small, around the Island of St.Maarten/Saint Martin.
Classes available in the Around St.Maarten Multihull Regatta will be Trimarans, Catamarans racing and cruising and a Beach Cats class.
The regatta organization has already received the assurance of participation from several multihull owners and even the 67 ft long Trimaran 'Atlantis' will come back from Rio de Janeiro to participate in the regatta.
The event will be sanctioned by the St.Maarten-St.Martin Classic Yacht Club and race director is Mirian Ebbers who used to be the director of the Sint Maarten Heineken Regatta during eight years.
Holland House Beach Hotel in Philipsburg has come on board as the first sponsor and has offered to host the skippers briefing on Friday the 26th of February and the prize giving on the 27th, 2010.
The races are projected to start on Saturday morning the 27th at 10.00 am.
